“STORY ABOUT A PAIR OF SOCKS ...”
Thomas had set his heart on wearing his alma mater’s socks and therefore Lynelle Swanepoel, an Old Girl from Paarl Girls’ High living near at Heathrow Airport, made every effort to overcome all the obstacles. Amid a large amount of confusion of plains, trains and automobiles, she fetched the socks and eventually managed to track Thomas down in London. Her four-year-old son, Jacques, dressed in a Paarl Boys’ High rugby shirt, handed the socks over to Thomas, in the process scoring the opportunity of playing around cheerfully with some of the Barbarian team players and getting a rugby ball signed by some big names in the rugby world. This all goes to show what can be achieved by team work with the support of the social media! Tandem Fit Arbor Surculus!
Project BHS: Boys’ High socks on Twickenham! It all started with Thomas du Toit’s special wish. A Facebook post, a tag in an Old Boys’ page, a proud school, Old Boys, an Old Girl from Paarl Girls’ High and an Old Boy of Grey College all made the wish a reality. In a Facebook post Thomas asked Old Boys in or around the Greater London area for school rugby socks to wear in the Barbarians game. In response a parcel was made up in Paarl and rushed to Cape Town Airport to be handed to an Old Boy of Grey College on his way to London. This flight was delayed because of lightning, snow and sleet in London which incidentally also caused an earlier departure of the Barbarians to a different location.
