Vinpro Technical Harvest Report 2025

Grape and wine quality

once again posed significant challenges in the district. This season, disease pressure was low, and the vineyards were exceptionally healthy throughout. Delayed green bunches and more-than-usual secondary bunches were also discarded during crop control at véraison. Production trends Vineyards showed stronger growth due to good water supply. Water deficit symptoms were observed towards the end of the season but did not significantly impact the harvest. Although the white cultivars delivered average yields, the red cultivars – particularly Pinotage – realised improved yields. Chenin Blanc bunches developed well, although lower bunch numbers per vine negatively affected the overall harvest size.

Grape quality and health were excellent. Grape analyses of the early white cultivars were particularly favourable, with high acidity and

low pH levels. Early indications suggest that the white wines will be of outstanding quality, and winemakers in the district are particularly excited about this year’s Shiraz. Juice recoveries were in line with the long-term average.

Cool nights, the absence of severe heat waves, healthy grapes and average yields have produced an incredible harvest in terms of wine quality. Fruity notes are pronounced on Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and balance is excellent across the cultivar spectrum. – Pieter du Toit, Owner, Kloovenburg Wines
