GREEN COMMITTEE As Dr Seuss reminds us in The Lorax : ‘Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.’ This year, the Green Committee set out to care, not only for the environment, but also for the people around us. Our mission was to lead more eco-friendly lives, raise awareness about endangered animals, and to show that kindness and fun can go hand in hand with making a difference. One of the biggest highlights was bringing back the Green Market Day – and what a glorious success it was! From thrift stalls and caricatures to sweet treats and skincare, it was a lovely way to start off the Mother’s Day weekend. We were extremely proud to organise it entirely on our own and the joy it brought to those around us was most gratifying. With the generous sponsorship of De Jagers, we designed reusable metal to-go mugs so that the Larries could support the café and environment in style. The profit generated by the sales of these mugs was donated to the Table Mountain Fund and the Endangered Wildlife Trust, which focus on conserving the riverine rabbit, geometric tortoise, Cape dwarf chameleon, and, of course, our wonderful fynbos – all of which are incorporated in our beautiful mug design! Furthermore, we wanted to bear the love forward by teaming up with the Interact Committee to host a teddy bear drive. Bears were donated to the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, so that they could be restored and passed on to children who needed their comfort the most. This year, the Green Committee demonstrated that change does not simply happen by chance. It is created with care, kindness – and a dash of creativity. We trust these traditions will continue to bud, just like the world we are hard at work to protect. Mrs L’nanda le Roux
