MARIMBAS (LAR’IMBAS) Now, in its second year of existence, the marimba band has continued to grow in skill, confidence and performance experience. From local performances to national festivals, 2024-2025 has been a milestone season filled with memorable moments and musical achievements. One of the major highlights of the year was our participation in the National All Girls’ Festival, held at Wynberg Girls’ High School in Cape Town this year. With girls’ schools from across the country attending, the Festival was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our band. Staying in a hotel in Cape Town added to the excitement, and our students had an unforgettable time bonding, performing and learning. Another remarkable event was the Guinness World Record attempt, hosted by Marimba Jam at the Grand West Arena. Our marimba band was part of the incredible musical moment where 1 077 marimba players performed a medley of two songs – and broke the record! The atmosphere, energy and unity of that performance were unmatched, and it will remain a proud memory for everyone involved. Our marimba programme has seen tremendous growth, expanding from a single group to two full ensembles. This development reflects both the popularity of the programme and the dedication of our learners. Our band performed at various school events and assemblies throughout the year, continually improving stage presence and musicality. A highlight for many was the electrifying performance by Michael house and St John’s College, who visited and performed at one of our assemblies. They truly “rocked” the roof and their energy was a huge inspiration for the Larries. This year has been a thrilling chapter in the marimba band’s story. From breaking world records to performing on big stages and maturing as musicians, the Larries have shown incredible commitment and joy. We look forward to building on this momentum and bringing even more rhythm and excitement to our school and
