La Rochelle Yearbook 2025

VERENIGINGS

ORCHESTRA (L’ARMONIA) We proudly reflect on the achievements of the school orchestra as it continued to shine by exhibiting remarkable growth in skill and performing with great success at various events throughout the year. In February the L’Armonia orchestra comprising 19 members – first, second and third violins, cellos, violas, flutes, clarinets, saxophones and percussion – had a workshop weekend during which each member not only worked very hard to learn the repertoire, but also bonded and made memories to cherish. We ended the workshop with our very first performance for our parents and teachers, in particular, Mesdames Elsabé Conradie and Lize Hayman. In May, L’Armonia successfully performed its repertoire at one of our favourite events, Kamerkonsert 2025, where the orchestra opened proceedings for the music learners to display their talents. One of the highlights of the year was Founders’ Day in August, where the orchestra continued with the proud legacy of cultural excellence, by presenting its talents and reflecting the spirit of unity, pride and excellence. Another memorable performance was showcasing our collective skills for the Old Girls of La Rochelle at the Alumnae Tea. Our highest accolade for the year was achieved at the Paarl Valley Eisteddfod, where the orchestra was

awarded Cum Laude and was announced the category winners for the best High School Orchestra for a second time in a row. Over the course of the year the orchestra led the assemblies during the flag ceremony and the singing of the school song and National Anthem. Many early morning and Wednesday ensemble practices contributed to our continued success and skills development. A special note of thanks goes to our conductor, Mrs Inge Wittenberg, whose dedication and expertise have been instrumental in guiding the orchestra through a very successful year. Her leadership and passion have inspired our musicians and laid a solid foundation for future success. A warm thank you also to Mrs Lize Hayman for her continued support on and off the stage and to McKayla Griffiths, our Deputy Chairlady and talented, dedicated percussionist. As we look back, we are grateful for another year of harmony and excellence and, as we look ahead, we extend our best wishes to the new orchestra leaders. May you continue to build on your love for music and bring fresh energy and vision to the orchestra. Nina Voigt
