CHESS The Chess Club played its opening gambit in 2025 with the 4G Chess Competition, in which five learners – Lienka de Villiers, Caylah Cupido, Inke Botma, Lara de Waal and Isabella Badenhorst – represented La Rochelle with pride and purpose. In Term 2, our team competed at the National All Girls’ Festival. On this occasion, the team consisted of Lienka de Villiers, Caylah Cupido, Inke Botma and Zanetah Geduld. Thanks to the guidance of our coach, Mr Jan Meyer Verhoef, we managed to improve our overall standing in comparison to previous years. Another highlight of the year was Lienka, Caylah and Inke being selected to represent the Cape Winelands Team at the Western Cape Trials. We are immensely proud of all our chess players and the milestones they have reached this year. Leigh Adams
