groep Larries op Saterdag, 10 April die bekoring en unieke karakter van Tafelberg ervaar. Ons het met die paadjie onder die sweefspoor begin; met die kontoer langs gestap en na twee lekker blaaskanse die stylte van Platteklipkloof aangedurf. Oudergewoonte was dit ’n GROOT uitdaging en het elkeen teen sy eie pas geklim. Toe almal veilig op die merkwaardige plat oppervlakte vergader het, was dit tyd om by die restaurant te ontspan. Die rit af met die sweefspoorkajuit was inderdaad ’n welverdiende bonus en ’n plesierrit vir die dapper Larries. The hiking trail in the Franschhoek Pass – aptly named ‘Mont La Rochelle’ – on Saturday, 5 June was a tough but fulfilling challenge. To begin with, there was an icy wind which pierced every layer of clothing, but as the day and the Larries warmed up, our efforts were rewarded with stunning panoramic views of three dams: Theewaters­ kloof, Berg River and Wemmershoek. A few over-eager young hikers missed a turn and completed only half the

trail. Remember rule number one: Listen to the BFG! The final outing before the weather and the pandemic threw a spanner in the works was a lovely hike over Paarl Mountain on Saturday, 19 June. The group was dropped off at the waterfall next to Jan Phillips Drive. They waited under the supervision of Mr Jacques Philander, while Mr N drove the school bus to the destination at Spice Route on the other side of the mountain. On his return – via the kind courtesy of Mrs N – the group followed various picturesque trails, stopping at ‘Oukraal’ and ‘Krismis’ Camps for refreshments. After more than two hours, the tired, yet determined Larries descended to a welcome time of relaxation at the fantastic Spice Route complex of coffee shops and restaurants. Before bidding the school farewell, Mr N hopes to have taken the lovely ladies of La Rochelle on at least three more outings for old times’ sake.
