In die Hoër Jongenskool Paarl is ons bevoorreg om elke Donderdagoggend ’n geleentheid te hê om vir 20 minute in kringe bymekaar te kom. Daar gesels die seuns oor geloof en die vaardighede wat ons nodig het om suksesvol te wees. Stephan Venter en Thandoluhle Wekeni – ons hoofleiers in 2024 – het leiding gegee aan 61 kringleiers en groepe. Hulle was gewaardeerde raakvatters, en het ’n uitstekende voorbeeld vir die res van die skool gestel. Mnr Corné van Tonder het ook die jaar by die CSV aangesluit en vinnig deel van die span geraak. Aan die begin van die jaar ontvang kringleiers opleiding van Vicus Kruger van Suider-Paarl Gemeente ten opsigte van die aanbieding van lesse en hoe om hulself in hul nuwe leiersposisies te ontwikkel. We use a Growth application on the group leaders’ phones: weekly lessons are uploaded as well as relevant verses, questions and challenges. In this way all the group leaders have instant access to weekly notes. We are very grateful to Vicus who prepares and shares all this material so conscientiously with us. On 29 February we started the day with all the students on the field in front of the school. The gathering coincided with the Matric Day, and included a special message from Vicus to the matrics: “There are moments and then there are ‘wow-ments’. Moments are captured by special experiences. ‘Wow-ments’ occur once in a lifetime, and are exceptional encounters in which you play a part. This calls for a new mindset and distance from what everyone else does. Our dream for the Grade 12s of 2024 is just that: for them to be different,‍ to seek ‘wow-ments’, and to renew their minds. Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to

offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Rom. 12). As part of the Blue Family, we encourage you to be different and stand out from the crowd wherever you go.” In die tweede kwartaal het baie van ons seuns op 10 April die eerste “Worship in the Valley Collective” by Faurestraat bygewoon. Wat in 2017 as deel van ons skool se Jesus-week begin het, het gegroei tot ’n geleentheid waar 2000 tieners, verteenwoordigend van sewe omliggende skole, na die stadion gestroom het om saam die Here te aanbid. Die musiekgroep het bestaan uit van die Wes-Kaap se top-aanbiddingsleiers, en Vicus het die aand se boodskap – tema Identiteit – gebring met die slotsom dat jy nie jou lig kan laat skyn as jou ‘selfie’- kamera aan is nie. Een van die hoogtepunte van die aand was getuienisvideo’s spesiaal deur Stormers-spelers vir die aand bygedra, asook ons eregas, Anzél Rabie, se getuienis oor ware identiteit in Christus. Dit was hopelik die begin van nog vele sulke aangeleenthede. Ascension Day (9 May) fell on the Thursday before our weekend meet against Grey College, which made the event even more significant. It was a privilege to listen to Minister Ewald Moerman in the hall. He focused on Jesus’ return one day and the Holy Spirit that will guide us in making good decisions until then. We also welcomed messrs Robert Schultheiss and Erik Marais from Gideons International on Tuesday, 22 October. They told the Grade 8 boys about what their organisation does and how many Bibles are distributed around the world each year. We greatly appreciate their time and effort, and believe that the Gideons will continue this special tradition with Paarl Boys’ High School for many years to come.
