Corky bark.

PHOTO 221. A typical example of corky bark on this mature trunk. Note, however, that typical grooving and pitting (as in stem grooving) are not visually detectable.

PHOTO 222. Leaves on grapevines infected with corky bark are smaller than usual, curl slightly downwards and change colour entirely to red, later assuming a dark brown and eventually even a purplish appearance (also see Photo 218).
