The application works as follows: • The duty sheets of employees are captured on a smartphone, tablet or computer, along with their personal information. The employee has access to their duties and evaluation criteria, and undersigns their sheet online along with their direct superior. • A skills assessment is performed online, based on the undersigned duties of the job description. Then the required type of training, if any, is decided on to ensure maximum performance. This

will then form part of the employee’s development plan. • After completion of the skills assess - ment, all employee information that was captured, is available to compile a training plan. In most cases this will be required by the relevant SETA as prerequisite to apply for mandatory grants and development plans through the workplace skills plan and annual training submissions. • It is now easy to also use the application, with existing information already captured on the Sircula system, for performance appraisals. Each duty that

can be used on a smartphone, tablet or computer, giving both employees and workers access to their development plan. The application was designed to ease the management of employees’ duty sheets, skills and performance. The project was initiated at the following wine farms: • Diemersfontein Wines and Thokozani • Raka Wines

THE SOUTH AFRICAN WINE & BRANDY Learner Management System (LMS), which forms part of Winetech, and Sircula, a tool to facilitate performance appraisal in the workplace, was funded by the AgriSETA to implement the Sircula application at a selected group of wine farms from April 2020 to June 2021. The project was successfully implemented through the use of an application that
