NORTHERN PROVINCES Regional Representatives: Brett Gosling | Christine Gosling The Northern Provinces packed 4.8 million cartons for export in the 2024/25 season, which is 18% lower than its estimate (5.8 million cartons), and 20% lower than the previous season (6.0 million cartons). The lower export volume was due to a late cold weather pattern that reduced volumes on early season varieties. The Northern Provinces also have a strong local market focus that traditionally receives 15% of their total volume. Total hectares planted decreased with 3% since 2024 to 1,835 ha in 2025. ORANGE RIVER Regional Representatives: Gabriel Viljoen | Elzaan Lombard Higher yields were packed in the Orange River than originally estimated with this region ending its season at 25.0 million cartons, which is 3% more than the original estimate of 24.4 million cartons, and 3% more than the previous season (24.2 million cartons). Total hectares planted in 2025 decreased slightly with 1% since 2024 to 5,662 hectares. OLIFANTS RIVER Regional Representatives: Morné Paxton | Anneke Greeff The Olifants River region concluded the season with almost 4.4 million cartons packed, which is 1% more than its estimate (4.3 million cartons), and 11% more than the previous season (3.9 million cartons). Total hectares planted decreased by 6% to 1,090 hectares since the previous year. This was mainly due to the removal of older varieties, with new generation varieties still on the increase. BERG RIVER Regional Representatives: Carel van der Merwe | Liezl Jonker The Berg River region experienced a notable uptick in production, with packed volumes almost reaching 19.5 million cartons, which was a 5% increase from the previous season’s 18.5 million cartons and slightly above the estimated 18.7 million cartons. This growth is underpinned by a 2% expansion in total hectares planted, which now stands at 4,621 hectares. HEX RIVER Regional Representatives: Michael Vorster | Maré Steenkamp The Hex River region experienced favourable production conditions and achieved its highest volumes to date with 25.3 million cartons packed, a 9% increase compared with the previous season’s packed volumes and this season’s estimate of 23.2 million cartons. Total hectares planted increased marginally to 6,194 hectares.
