La Rochelle Yearbook 2025
SOCIETIES
LIBRARY COMMITTEE This year, the Library Prefects oversaw the acquisition of over 100 new titles across diverse disciplines which were acquired via generous donations. Additionally, several outdated or damaged books were removed and will be donated to various charities. The library underwent several renovations. Efforts were made to improve study spaces, including the creation of collaborative study areas. A learner feedback mechanism was also introduced to help align the services of the library with Larrie preferences. On 22 May, we commemorated the existence of the library area of the Johanna Longland Learning Centre by hosting a
re-inauguration. This special event was attended by former principals, as well as former and present members of staff and learners. Guests walked in with stacks of books which the Prefects happily added to the shelves, with each book containing a note from the donor. The Library Prefects of 2025 demonstrated how colla borative leadership and strategic planning can transform a library into a dynamic learning hub. Through collective effort, painstaking cleaning and long hours covered in dust, the Prefects have been able to make the library a safe space that the entire La Rochelle family can enjoy. We are extremely proud of our dedicated team. Leigh Adams
ROBOTICS CLUB The Robotics Club experienced a suc scessful and rewarding year, highlighted by the participation in the World Robotics Olympiad. Furthermore, La Rochelle had the privilege of hosting two competitions this year: the annual Paarl Robothon and the Boland WRO Regionals. Both the Junior and Senior Teams took part in the competition, with the Seniors delivering particularly impressive results by securing a 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in their age category. These achievements ensured that all the Senior teams qualified for the national competition, marking a significant milestone for the Robotics Club. At the WRO National Competition, held at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, the Block Bots, consisting of Isla Williams and Kendall Fortuin, achieved an outstanding 9th place in the country. At the end of this year, La Rochelle will officially launch its inaugural First Tech Challenge Team, Bloomatrix, who will aspire to take their skills to the next level in this new competition format. The year reflected consistent growth and perseverance from all the members, who strengthened both their technical skills and teamwork abilities. Through competitions and preparation, the Robotics Club demonstrated commitment, resilience and a passion for innovation that will continue to inspire future participants. Hanaan Gaffoor
