EXCHANGES 2024 During 2024, La Rochelle sent and received exchange students from two of South Africa’s most successful exchange agencies, FSA Youth Exchange and GROW Abroad, who have provided not only our pupils but also our exchange students from abroad with a once-in-a-lifetime golden opportunity. We had two unique and special multi exchange relations between two students, Mari Joubert (Grade 11) and Anna-Lena Hakenes (Grade 11) from Neustadt, Germany. During the December holidays in 2023, Mari went to Neustadt, Germany, for her exchange program, where Anna Lena Hakenes was Mari’s host sister. Later this year, in July-August 2024, Anna Lena came to visit Mari for her exchange program. Not only has the language barrier become something of the past, but a genuinely unique sisterhood has formed. From January 2024 to June 2024, Mateja Balta (Grade 11) from Gorizia, Italy, embarked on a six-month exchange with Rebecca (Grade 11) Shelly’s family before graduating from high school. According to Mateja, her exchange was not just a journey but a transformative experience that she will always cherish. As the exchange coordinator, I, Miss Carmari Marais, had the privilege to witness two truly remarkable exchange students’ bonds blossom into friendships that will endure the test of time, serving as a testament to the lasting impact of our
