La Rochelle Yearbook 2023

Tennis

The year started with many changes. Not only did we acquire new players, we also welcomed the Armstrong Tennis Academy aboard the La Rochelle Tennis Team. The First Team competed in two national schools’ competitions: All Girls’ Festival : The tennis was of an incredibly high standard. Long days were filled with tough matches, close losses and good wins. Despite our fatigue, the team persevered to fight for every point! The Marlie Moolman Tennis Tournament , Cradock: We faced tough opponents in difficult conditions – waking up at the crack of dawn, playing till dusk, being permitted very short breaks between matches, in the cold, intermittent rain and harsh winds. Despite the negatives, our team spirit, motivation and resolve helped us to persist. We are grateful to Mrs Conradie, who supported us on both tours, Mesdames Mlani, Geldenhuys and Vorster and Mss Venter, Hermanus and Malan for their support. Each player has improved, and I trust their growth will continue as they strive to reach their true potential. ‘Fight for every shot, even if you don’t think you will make it. You might just surprise yourself.’
