La Rochelle Yearbook 2023
Chess
Chess ‘ Life is a chess match. Every decision you make, has a consequence to it .’ – PK Subban Our motto for 2023 was to celebrate small victories, of which there were many! During the weekly practices, the Larries enjoyed playing against each other, but more importantly, worked at new strategies in their matches. We competed at the All-Girls’ Festival. It was the first occasion at which most of the players were exposed to a rated tournament. The team (Micheala du Preez, Tanya Louw, Larike Schmidt, Leigh Adams and Rachael
Vassilatos) showed positivity and determination, but above all, they had fun despite the extremely tough competition. Zhané Lubbe competed in the Cape Winelands Chess Tournament and was invited to represent the Cape Winelands Team at the Western Cape Chess Tournament . I am excited to see what 2024 has in store for us and trust that the Chess Club will go from strength to strength.
