Choir In 2023 the 90-member choir came under the baton of Ms Madri Gerber. With her leadership, guidance and grace, the choir has grown exponentially in the quality of its performances and work ethic, thereby creating beautiful music, choral singing and storytelling. The choir took part in various competitions throughout the year, such as the AKTV Choir Competition held at Gene Louw Primary School in May. While we did not proceed to the next round, we were awarded Gold (80 – 100%) for our excellent performance. We received many compliments from various sources and were extremely proud of all our hard work. On Sunday, 6 August, the choir participated in a project involving a video recording of the national anthem for this year’s Rugby World Cup. While the event served as an amazing opportunity to gain exposure for our choir and our school, it was also an honour to represent La Rochelle and South Africa. The choir also participated in the Paarl

Valley Eisteddfod at Courtrai Primary School in August. This was one of our best performances of the year. We sang with heart, emotion and dedication and received Cum Laude . Apart from the above-mentioned competitions, the choir also performed at many school functions. Amongst these were Mrs Marianna Schoeman’s farewell assembly earlier in the year, as well as the Old Girls’ Reunion Tea in September. The final performances of the year were held in October at the Culture Festival , in which the choir and Con Spirito performed their full repertoires, and at the Academic Prize-Giving on 18 October. It was an absolute honour to represent our choir this year, and I cannot wait to see (hear!) what these talented young Larries achieve in the years to come. La Rochelle’s choir is without a doubt a force to be reckoned with. Through each member’s commitment, dedication and passion, experiences were had; memories made; lessons learnt; talent strengthened and, above all, beautiful music shared.
