In August we once again approached Le Naturel for their amazing school fundraiser initiative where 15% of proceeds are given to the school. The committee used this opportunity to raise R5000 for Greenpop, an organization dedicated to planting trees, greening communities and empowering environmental stewards. We also continued with the Green Workshops , one per term, that not only created awareness on certain topics, but was a way in which the EnvironmentaLarries could engage with one another and bond over their love for the environment. These workshops included topics such as plastic-free alternatives, fast fashion and eco-friendly sanitary products. The Eco-club also had the amazing opportunity of visiting the Rain Natural Skincare fac- tory in September, during which they not only saw how the company operates, but the things they implement in their production process to help the environment. The Green Market Day continued despite challenging circumstances surrounding the pandemic and was held in the first week of term 4. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to every single EnvironmentaLarrie and committee member for your hard work and dedication. It is with a heavy heart that we also have to bid farewell to our coordinator, Mrs. Vermeulen, at the end of this year. Thank you for your guidance and the immense amount of effort you put into the Green Committee, it won’t be the same without you! Ronit Olivier

“ Yo u m u s t b e t h e c h a n g e y o u w a n t t o s e e i n t h e w o r l d . ” – M a h a t m a G a n d i The committee’s efforts kicked-off with the launch of the EnvironmentaLarrie reusable water bottles. Along with the sale of 7 brand new stickers, the Green Committee and the Little Larries collectively raised R5000 which was donated to HannahPad, an organisation that not only aims at making reusable sanitary products available to girls in need, but also to create a cleaner planet. This donation will contribute to their “ Help-a-girl-padset ” project where 15 girls will now be able to go to school every day of the month! The start of 2021 also meant the start of the Green Committee’s new newsletter, “The Monthly Veg”, which was distributed on social media to create awareness on different topics and provide some eco-friendly tips and tricks to our readers. Another new initiative we started this year, was the “ EnvironmentaLarrie of the Term ” which was created to congratulate and thank the girls that contribute the most to creating a greener future in their everyday lives. The three learners who earned this title in 2021 are Madison Thompson, Marcel Dippenaar and Amelie Ferreira.
