2025 was a busy year for Paarl Boys’ High’s debating teams, having taken part in the Boland Debating league as well as the provincial rounds of debating. The Boland league, which takes place every Wednesday at Paul Roos in Stellenbosch, was truly a highlight this year as we competed with a very young and inexperienced team and still managed fair results – not to mention the great learning opportunity that this league offers.

The provincial rounds that took place over two weekends at the beginning of the third term showcased the boys’ commitment as it was scheduled for the interschools weekend. Unfortunately, they did not make it to the final rounds.

English Olympiad

The English Olympiad aims to enrich young people’s minds through the study of English, while at the same time encouraging learners to explore the English language and its literature beyond the scope of the normal school curriculum. The theme of the 2025 English Olympiad was “Celebration”,

and the examinations were based on an anthology of literary works and a study guide compiled by Chief Examiner Malcolm Venter and Co-Examiner Yvette Morgan. Five of our learners, grades 9-12, wrote the National English Olympiad. Their results were exemplary.
