2025
What an incredible honour and privilege it has been for me to serve as the Acting Principal of Paarl Boys’ High School in 2025. At the beginning of the year, I knew there were only two choices: merely keep the ship afloat, or steer the Boys’ High ship forward – even if it meant in a slightly new direction. I deliberately chose the latter, for in my 29 years at Paarl Boys’ High, mediocrity has never been an option. As
exhibitions and sporting events that reflected the spirit of excellence he inspired. Central to the occasion was the timeless value of gentlemanship, which Mr Engela instilled to remind every boy that true success is measured not only by achievement, but by character, respect and integrity. To make this a reality, our staff, boys, parents and the wider Boys’ High community had to learn to trust and embrace the processes we put in place.
The school proudly celebrated a Golden Anniversary, marking 50 years of the three
traditions (good conduct, good scholarship and good sportsmanship) established in 1975 by the legendary headmaster, Mr Tom Engela. The celebrations honoured these enduring values with assemblies,
