On Saturday, 12 April 2025, the IT and Robotics Department participated in the Paarl Robothon, hosted at La Rochelle Girls’ High School. This local robotics competition brought together teams from various schools to compete in a series of technical challenges designed to test programming, engineering, and problem-solving skills. Among the participating teams was Team Maverick, consisting of Ruben van Niekerk, Philip Spies, and Ethan Wagener. Demonstrating exceptional teamwork and technical proficiency, Team Maverick emerged as the winner of the event, earning recognition for their innovative approach and consistent performance across all challenges. Following their success at the Robothon, Team Maverick, along with three other teams from the school, took part showcasing student innovation and promoting the subjects of Information Technology (IT) and Computer Applications Technology (CAT). This year’s Expo featured projects from both IT and CAT learners. The IT students demonstrated their Delphi programming skills, while the CAT students presented websites, they had designed themselves. Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD) was not part of this year’s event. Stadio, the main sponsor, played a key role by providing two judges to assist in evaluating the student projects. In addition, Connor Hess, a former student and winner of the first IT Expo, returned to contribute to the judging process. Primary school learners and Grade 9 students were invited to attend the event. This initiative aimed to promote awareness of IT and CAT as subject choices and to inspire younger learners to pursue these fields. Robotics
