5. Monte Bello 6. Bellevue Cape Winelands Top Schools The U15A and U18AB teams participated in the Cape Winelands Top Schools on 27 July in Wellington. The U18AB team finished fourth while the U15 team finished first in the Winelands and qualified for the Western Cape Top Schools. U15 Best board 1: Ethan Oosthuizen Best board 2: MJ Strydom Best board 4: Aiden Els Wes-Kaap Topskole Die o. 15-span het op die naweek van 31 Augustus tot 1 September aan die Wes-Kaap Topskole in Oudtshoorn deelgeneem. Die o. 15-span het tweede geëindig en vir die Nasionale Topskole gekwalifiseer. Ethan Oosthuizen (board 1) and Aiden Els (board 5) won all six their games and the board prizes, finishing with a performance ratings of 2 314 and 2 098 respectively. Paarl Boys’ High Chess Festival This festival, hosted from 3 to 5 October, has continued to grow in strength and popularity with 45 teams from 20 schools across five provinces competing in the event. The tournament consisted of four divisions (Elite, Girls, B, C) competing in a six-round Swiss team format. Five Boys’ High teams participated. The first team retained the trophy in the Elite division and the second team played tremendously to win bronze in the same division consisting only of A teams. The fourth team went over and beyond and succeeded in winning the B division with the third team finishing seventh in the same division. The fifth team finished seventh in the C division. Kian Blomerus: best board 3 (Elite division) Junior White: best board 2 (B division) The tournament was truly a festive environment for all players and coaches to enjoy this great game and make memories and friends. On 2 March seventeen boys took part in the Cape Wineland Prestige Trials in Wellington. A total of nine boys qualified to represent the Cape Winelands team at the Western Cape Trials in Genadendal. U15

Sewe Boishaaiers het die Kaapse Wynland by die Wes Kaap-skaakproewe verteenwoordig. MJ Strydom en Ethan Oosthuizen het onderskeidelik die tweede en vyfde plek in die o. 15-Wes-Kaap-skaakkampioenskap behaal. Grey College Interschools Boys’ High proved to be too strong for Grey College: all four teams won their games. The final tally was 39 – 9. Wynberg Boys’ High Derby PBHS hosted Wynberg BHS for the first time. This newly- established derby with a total of seven teams competing proved to be an epic clash. Paarl Boys’ High won four matches, drew one and lost two matches with a final score of 28½ – 13½. Paarl Interskole Vier spanne het mekaar die stryd aangesê. Ons eerste span het hul uitstekende spel voortgesit en Gim oortuigend 6 – 2 geklop. Die B- en C-spanne het ook hul wedstryde oortuigend gewen. Die vierde span het gelyk op gespeel. Die finale telling was 23 – 9 in HJS se guns. HJS het vir die eerste keer sedert die Old Boys Interskole se begin drie jaar gelede oor die Gimmies geseëvier. Interhuis Die jaarlikse Interhuis het weer groot getalle gelok. Imhoff het sterk gespeel maar moes in die finaal die knie buig teen Berlyn.

MJ Strydom and Ethan Oosthuizen represented Western Cape at the 2024 South African National Schools Chess Championship in Gqeberha. Ethan finished seventh nationally. Ethan Oosthuizen also finished as the twelfth best U14 player in the country at the South African Junior Chess Championships (SAJCC). He represented South Africa at the African Youth Chess Championships from 15 to 24 June in Johannesburg.
