The Nedbank Essay Competition, an annual event aimed at fostering intellectual engagement among high school students, witnessed a surge in interest this year with a focus on the critical theme of “Effects of Confronting Climate Change and Environmental Policy”. The essays submitted by participants delved into a wide array of topics related to climate change and environmental policy. The diverse perspectives offered valuable insights into the impact these issues have on communities, economies and ecosystems. From discussions on renewable energy solutions to the role of international cooperation in tackling climate challenges, the essays showcased a rich tapestry of ideas and solutions. The final round of the competition featured a total of 26 participants from various schools from across the province. This year, Francois Rademeyer, Nicolas Oudtshoorn and Tristan Didloff reached the final round of the competition. To encourage and acknowledge the efforts of all participants, a participation award was conferred upon each finalist. This recognition serves to motivate students to delve deeper into the subject matter

and continue their exploration of environmental issues. Francois Rademeyer’s exceptional writing skills and insightful analysis of the given topic made him one of the bursary winners. The Nedbank Essay Competition for the academic year 2022/2023 has proven to be a platform for young minds to engage with the pressing issues of our time. The participants, including our school’s finalists, demonstrated a commendable level of understanding and concern for the effects of confronting climate change and the importance of sound environmental policy. As we celebrate the achievements of Francois Rademeyer, Nicolas Oudtshoorn and Tristan Didloff, we also acknowledge the collective efforts of all participants in contributing to a meaningful discourse on climate change and environmental policy.
