Western Cape Trials ’n Rekordgetal van 10 seuns het die Kaapse Wynlandskaakspan 1-2 April by die Wes-Kaapproewe in Strand verteenwoordig. Five boys finished in the top 20: U15 20th MJ Strydom 8th Ethan van Heerden U17 Ethan van Heerden en Kobus Geyser kwalifiseer om Wes-Kaap 4-6 Julie by die Winterspele in Pretoria te verteenwoordig. Grey Interschools Grey Kollege het ’n rekordgetal van vyf toerspanne (30 spelers) gestuur. HJS het vir die eerste keer al hul wedstryde gewen, wat twee skoonskipoorwinnings insluit. In totaal het HJS vir Grey 24-6 geklop. Interskole HJS en Paarl Gim het geskiedenis gemaak as die eerste Interskole in die land wat die wedstryde regstreeks deur middel van digitale borde uitgesaai het. Die eerste vier spanne het almal hul wedstryde gewen en die vyfde span het gelykop gespeel. In totaal wen HJS 28-12. HJS was vir die eerste keer gasheer vir die oudstudente se Interskole-skaak, maar die oudstudente het ongelukkige hul wedstryd verloor. Cape Wineland Top Schools Two teams (U15 & U18) participated in the Cape Winelands Top Schools on 26 August in De Doorns. The U18 finished first in the Boland and defeated Paul Roos and Paarl Gim with a clean sweep. The U15 team finished second and both teams qualified for the Western Cape Top Schools. U18: Best board 1: Kobus Geyser Best board 4: Zandré Grobler Best board 5: Ethan van Heerden U15: Best board 4: Luba Mjungu Wes-Kaap Topskole Die o. 18 en o. 15-spanne het 2-3 September aan die Wes Kaap Topskole deelgeneem. Die o. 15-span het uitstekend gespeel en vierde in die provinsie geëindig. Die o. 18-span het hul onoorwonne lopie volgehou en eerste gekom as die kampioene in die Wes-Kaap, ’n eerste vir Boishaai. Kian Blomerus en Zandré Grobler is onderskeidelik as die beste bord 3- en 4-spelers in die Wes-Kaap aangedui. 20th Zandré Grobler 14th Kian Blomerus 2nd Kobus Geyser

Die o. 18-span het gekwalifiseer om 8-10 Desember aan die Nasionale Topskole in Port Elizabeth deel te neem. Ons wens hulle die beste toe. Interhouse League The Interhouse League once again attracted many boys to represent their respective houses, hoping to be the best in Boys’ High. Over 50 boys battled for supremacy at the chess board. The final honours, however, rested with Berlyn as the overall champions.

Boys’ High hosted the inaugural PBHS Chess Festival 14 -15 October. The tournament was an immediate success with as many as 40 teams from 24 schools competing in the event. Teams from as far as Johannesburg travelled to join the festival. The festival consisted of two divisions (Elite and 2nd with 20 teams each) playing six rounds using the Swiss team format. Six Boys’ High teams entered the festival – the top three in the Elite Division and three in the 2nd division. The 1st team continued its unbeaten run and won the inaugural PBHS Chess Festival. Kian Blomerus was the top board 3 player in the

Provincial Representation South African Winter Games

Kobus Geyser (o. 18) behaal 8e plek in Suid-Afrika en wen goud met die Wes-Kaapspan. Ethan van Heerden (U15) finished 9th nationally and won bronze with the Western Cape team. Western Cape Inter-Regional Cup Kian Blomerus en Kobus Geyser is geselekteer om die Kaapse Wynland Junior-seunskaakspan (o. 20) by die Wes-Kaap-interstreekbeker (Western Cape Inter-Regional Cup) in Hartenbos te verteenwoordig. Hulle het die derde posisie beklee. Provincial colours: Kobus Geyser (Western Cape U18) Kian Blomerus (Boland U20) Ethan van Heerden (Western Cape U15)
