● Skills development improves the overall skills levels of employees and therefore enables the business to meet their strategic and business objectives by empowering people with information, skills and knowledge. ● Is seen as extremely important as it is directly linked to competitiveness in any organisation and its industry. ● Plays a key role in driving effectiveness in the business and therefore also contributes to a decrease in errors by employees, as well as a decrease in downtime, hence also serving as a vehicle for risk mitigation in the company. ● Could help determine where the company should focus on in terms of its priorities. ● Is seen as a catalyst for change by encouraging new innovative ideas, thinking, networking, knowledge-sharing and behaviour by improving several aspects of the business. ● Can affect the product quality, business sustainability and approachability of the business by markets which are crucial for the growth and competitiveness of the business.

● It is important to provide opportunities for employees to develop and grow and to keep up with current trends, both nationally and internationally so that they can stay relevant in their jobs when they help the business to achieve its goals quicker and easier. ● Provides impetus for management development to enable managers to improve their leadership and management skills. ● It is important to ensure that every employee has the necessary skills, hence it is critical to know where the lack of knowledge and skills are to ensure that gaps are filled.
