5 VERITAS VERTEX AWARD

THE DUIMPIE BAYLY VERITAS VERTEX AWARD

The Board of Veritas decided in 2017 to name one wine as the overall champion of the competition. This top accolade, known as the Veritas Vertex Award, takes its name from the Latin vertex , which means “highest point”. Vertex is sometimes also used to indicate the ‘top’ or ‘high point’ of something, such as the vertex of an isosceles triangle, which is the ‘top’ corner opposite its base – which fits perfectly into the Veritas Awards notion of being the pinnacle of all the medals awarded. Duimpie Bayly, a Champion of the Industry, wine legend and former Chairman of the SA National Wine Show and Veritas sadly passed away in August 2021. The board decided to name this award the Duimpie Bayly Veritas Vertex Award in future in honour of his immense contribution to South African wine.

A panel of judges was nominated to taste all the Double Gold winning wines and to select the Veritas Vertex Award from them.

We are delighted to announce that the 2021 Duimpie BaylyVeritas Vertex Award goes to SPIERWINES Spier Creative Block 5 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Cabernet Franc/ Petit Verdot/Malbec 2018
