HEX RIVER
NORTHERN PROVINCES The Northern Region’s harvest concluded earlier than usual. Above average rainfall was experienced in late December and early January. Late-season cultivars included Crimson Seedless, Sugranineteen (Scarlotta Seedless ® ) and Sugrathirtyfive (Autumncrisp ® ). Overall, the season’s quality, berry size and health were good. The region concluded with 5.6 million cartons (4.5 kg equivalent), which is 24% lower than the previous season. ORANGE RIVER The Orange River region experienced a difficult season. Higher-than-average rainfall impacted volumes with most bunches lighter than in previous years. Above average temperatures during the flowering period led to weaning of some cultivars, specifically white varieties. Overall volumes were 27% lower than the previous season; and the volume of white seedless varieties was lower than the long-term average. The region produced good quality late-season varieties including Crimson Seedless, Sheegene 20 (Allison™) and Sugrathirtyfive (Autumncrisp ® ) and concluded with 16.4 million cartons (4.5 kg equivalent). OLIFANTS RIVER The Olifants River region’s crop was significantly lighter due to weather conditions and weaning. Mid-season varieties’ volumes were close to estimate numbers and late season varieties’ quality was aligned with expectations. Late season varieties included Crimson Seedless, Sugranineteen (Scarlotta Seedless ® ) and Sugrathirtyfive (Autumncrisp ® ). Overall, the region’s harvest displayed good berry size, quality & health. A total of 3 million cartons (4.5 kg equivalent) were packed, which is 15% lower than the previous season. BERG RIVER The Berg River region experienced a good season overall, with minimal weather impact. On average, bunch weight was on par with previous seasons. Late season varieties included Sugrathirtyfive (Autumncrisp ® ), IFG Ten (Sweet Globe™), Sheegene 20 (Allison™), Sugranineteen (Scarlotta Seedless ® ) and Sugrathirtyfour (Adora Seedless ® ). Berry quality, colour and health were good. Packing concluded earlier than usual, with a total of 19.0 million cartons (4.5 kg equivalent), which is 0.9% lower than the previous season. The Berg River region exceeded its crop estimate of 17.5 million cartons (4.5 kg equivalent). HEX RIVER Unseasonal rain experienced towards the end of the harvest period in the Hex River region resulted in a lower than anticipated harvest. Some cultivars were impacted more than others. Late season varieties included Sugrathirtyfive (Autumncrisp ® ) and Crimson Seedless, which displayed good colouring. Overall, the region reported a good quality season, with good berry size and colour. The season ended earlier than usual, and the region concluded with 21.2 million cartons (4.5 kg equivalent), which is 15% lower than the previous season.
