La Rochelle Yearbook 2025

SENIOR COUNCIL

Senior Council

A brand-new tradition was instituted this year as the Matrics gathered early one morning for the first official Matric Sunrise. With hot drinks in hand and the mountains aglow in the background, we took a moment to pause and reflect upon our countless blessings amid the busyness of our final year. It was undeniably an awe-inspiring experience that reminded us of the importance of presence and connection. The rest of Term 2 was filled with less prominent but meaningful moments, such as the filming of ‘A Day in the Life’ video and attending Paarl Girls’ High’s Langtafel . In Term 3 we hosted the annual Father & Daughter Evening – an enormous success that saw more than 250 Larries and their dads attending our Casino Royale event. Between the card games, sparkling dresses and delicious burgers and fries, the evening achieved its goal of strengthening the bond between fathers and daughters and capturing indelible moments. None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the dedication, integrity and teamwork shown by every member of the Senior Council of 2025. It was an honour to lead a group who served with such heart and passion, and to witness the growth of each individual, as well as the team as a whole. We would like to thank Mrs Hannatjie Naudé for all the support and guidance with which she blessed us throughout the year. Her admirable character touched us deeply and we are honoured to have shared her last year at La Rochelle. To Corin, Tinette and the Council of 2026 – I wish you the very best. May you continue to lead with kindness, courage and pride. I cannot wait to see the new heights La Rochelle will reach under your leadership. ‘The will of God will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you.’ Claire le Roux (Head Girl)

‘The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers. When people rise together, everyone becomes stronger, and the community becomes something greater than the sum of its parts.’ – Ralph Nader It is incredibly difficult to summarise a year filled with so much hard work, joy and growth. However, upon reflection, we can unequivocally state that our time as the Senior Council has been defined by unity, collaboration and purpose. Our journey as the Senior Council began with the Prefect Camp at the Grabouw Back 2 Basics Adventure Campsite. We were challenged with creative tasks that tested our problem-solving and teamwork skills, and by the end of the camp, we had not only created memories, but had also laid the foundation for the year ahead. Between campfire meals, laughter and the occasional encounter with a spider, the group forged bonds to transform into a unified team. The new year began with one of our most treasured duties: welcoming the Grade 8s of 2025 to their new alma mater! The Orientation Camp was a highlight for all of us – a time to introduce the newcomers to what it truly means to be a Larrie. It was most rewarding to watch how new friendships developed and to hear shy voices growing in confidence. From the Fashion Show parading recyclable dresses, the trip to McDonald’s and the traditional Milady-Daisy Picnic where the long-awaited pairs finally met, every moment celebrated our Larrie spirit and sisterhood. The rest of Orientation included colourful Daisy boards, creative dress up days such as the ‘Vrugtefees’, and culminated with the poignant Pearl and Blazer Ceremony. Term 1 continued at a lively pace. Valentine’s Day saw us spreading love and laughter by delivering roses, brownies and thoughtful gifts to surrounding Paarl and Stellenbosch schools. We hosted the Little Leaders’ Workshop – an initiative where communication, collaboration and leadership were explored among primary school students.
