La Rochelle Yearbook 2025
HOSTEL HEADGIRL & DEPUTY HEADGIRL
Our final year in the hostel got under way with an early start when the Prefects arrived on 10 January 2025 to welcome the Daisies and help them settle in. This set the tone for a year filled with spirit, laughter and unforgettable memories. Our very first official hostel event was the new tradition of the Inbly-naweek . The weekend was packed with fun: The Friday brought games such as boeresport , volleyball, frisbee, an Amazing Race – and plenty of gees ! On the Saturday the Inter Passage Gala was a highlight, with Yellow Passage securing the win with most points in the floatie race, relays and gang-gees rounds. The slip ’n slide and ice-cream from the Snoepie kept the energy levels high, followed by a Dress to Impress contest in the evening. The Sunday ended with a relaxing picnic on the grass next to the astro – it was a perfect ending to an exhausting weekend. The Mother’s Day weekend brought a special mother-daughter sleepover, complete with lasagna, thoughtful gifts from the Hostel Parent Committee and a karaoke night in the study hall. The Green Committee also hosted a successful Green Market Day in our quad, while spirited hockey and netball matches against Parel Vallei High School were taking place on the school premises. On 20 May, we held our annual Cake and Body Competition, where the Matrics of each passage decorated a cake and the Daisies performed a skit. Blue Passage shone with the best performance and overall win, while Yellow claimed the best cake prize. Term 3 commenced with the Broodeet competition, which was won by Green Passage. This was followed by our Wimbledon-themed Oscar Evening, where the winners received tennis biscuits and certificates! Finally, the Matrics’ 40 Days on 22 August brought an early morning, decorations and loads of fun – rounded off by teamwork as everyone helped to clean up. This year has once again reminded us that the hostel is more than just a building – it is a family, a home and a source of lifelong memories at the heart of the school. To the Matrics moving on: We will miss you dearly, but the spirit of the hostel lives on in each of us. Jana Herselman and Ivy-Ann Oates
