2024 ATHLETICS SEASON As the season started, together with the school year, excitement filled the air. Cillie won the Interhouse Trophy, repeating history yet again. Our hard-working athletes were privileged to compete at the Curro Podium Competition at the Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria. La Rochelle placed 4th in the Girls’ team category, competing against the best schools in the country just a few days before the school’s main athletics event. The 4G Interschools meeting was held at the Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl, with La Rochelle as host – our team of eighty-five athletes placed third overall, missing second place by just one point to Bloemhof. Although the team did not win, we felt immense pride, making it one of the most memorable 4G events. Many of our athletes were chosen for the Boland Athletics Team to participate in the Western Cape Championships in March. Of those girls, Kylie Basson, Cubin Marthinussen,

Kiera-Lee Abrahams, Mia Wilson, Nina Scheepers, Enya Binneman, Cornelia Destroo, Anja Coetzee, Tyler Hunt, Cara Wilson, and Meacke Lawrence were included in the Western Cape Team that competed in the South African High School Championships in Paarl. Seven of these girls went on to participate in the ASA National Championships in Pretoria, where the following medals were obtained: Minette Retief won Gold with a 5,55m in the u/16 Girls Long Jump, Cubin Marthinussen obtained Silver with a time of 42,94s in the Girls u/16 300mH, Kylie Basson obtained Silver with a time of 24,12s in the Girls u/18 200m, and Kiera-Lee Abrahams won a Bronze medal with a distance of 5,88m in the u/20 Women Long Jump. We are incredibly proud of all our athletes, and I wish them all the best for the approaching 2025 Athletics season! Your only limit is your mind – believe you can, and you will achieve

anything you put your mind to. Kiera-Lee Abrahams – Captain
