La Rochelle Yearbook 2023

Message from the Head Girl

In 2019 when we listened to Milady Amie and Milady Johanné deliver their Valedictory Farewell messages, Matric 2023 seemed very far away. And now – with a heart of gratitude, sadness, and excitement – I realise our time as learners is over, but our time as Larries will never end. Good morning, Mrs Conradie, staff, my fellow Larries and our proud parents. flavour to the mix. As the years progressed, the group of strangers bonded to become Larrie sisters. As the one chapter in our lives draws to a close, another unknown, unread, unlived chapter awaits us. But we can look back on the past five years with pride, gratitude and many indelible memories. It feels like yesterday when we, as the Sotte of 2019, did our ‘ hot-voet sot-voet-ek-is-’n-wurm ’ wiggle! We anxiously looked up at our Miladies: Milady Britney with her infamous ‘Relax!’ , Milady Cheri, whom you heard before you saw her and Milady Jaymi, short but fierce and sassy! They taught us what it means to be a Larrie, and how to fall in love with La Rochelle. They did not only tell us how to, they lived it. We learned from their actions and not just their words. On my very first day at the hostel, when I walked into Blue Passage 7, I met my roommates – Jani Snyders, Gabi Kriel and Jessica Schoeman. It suddenly dawned on me: My kamermaats is suiwer Afrikaans ! As jy Blommie in graad 8 ontmoet het, sou jy geweet het sy kon nie so lekker Afrikaans gepraat het nie! So, dankie dat julle my geleer het. It all started five years ago with a group of strangers coming together. We were like little characters straight out of ‘ Toy Story ’, each unique, vibrant and bringing her own

One thing I have learnt about high school is that you cannot survive it on your own and teamwork determines success. There are multiple factors that have contributed to the successes of our Larrie years and today we wish to pay tribute to them. The most honourable profession this world will ever know is education. So, to the Larrie staff: Thank you for sending empowered ladies who strive to be trustworthy, honest and sincere in all we do, women worthy of serving this country, into the vast, ever-changing world. Your contribution to the growth of our characters and in the way we view the world are deeply appreciated. Please continue to inspire as you have inspired so many already. Mss Kirsty Nel and Adéle Bothma have both played significant roles this year. I truly appreciate every hug, the comforting words, your wiping tears away and all the advice and conversations. I shall truly miss Ms Bothma’s ‘ sessies ’. The impact on, interest, and faith both of you had in me – I could not have asked for better mentors. To my Blommetjies Clan: Pappa Blom: Paps, from the depth of my heart, thank you. Your belief in me has been the wind beneath my wings. You have been my pillar of strength, encouraging me to dream big and reminding me that the world is my oyster. You saw potential in me where I could not, you believed in me when I did not. You have been my coach, my
