I am proud to say that Jani and I were not only given the opportunity to be part of but to lead the hockey community of 2023. We are able to reminisce about many occasions that were well-spent on and off the turf and have everlasting memories that we shall cherish. The Matrics will surely miss school hockey; the sisterhood we created; the 12-hour bonding trip to and from Bloemfontein and, most definitely, the spirit of every war cry.

This year we had the opportunity to attend more tournaments, the most memorable being the All Girls’ Festival. We are extremely proud of the following players who were chosen for their respective provincial hockey teams: Boland u/14A, B & C: Tebello Keketsi, Lakeisha Dudley, Cassidy Arries, Caziah Joseph, Kara Landman, Lira Talker, Talum Waries and Isla Williams. Western Cape u/14: Isabella Rennie. Boland u/16B: Corin Joseph and Ilke de Villiers. Boland u/18A & B: Johré Blommetjies and Cadey Becker. Regional u/18 : Aimee Farmer We will miss the YELLOW and BLUE and being with our fellow sisters on the turf. But, the cry of “BLOM, BLOM, BLOMMETJIES!” will echo in our souls forever.
