PRACTICAL GUIDELINES EMMA CARKEEK

The guidelines in this chapter are intended to help growers maximise the performance of their cover crops, so as to gain the greatest benefit from cover-crop cultivation. The information is applicable to different regions and soils in wine, table and raisin grape vineyards. Order seed Once the grower has decided which cover crops to plant, the first step is to order seed. Refer to the recommended sowing rates (Table 10.1) to calculate how much seed is needed. Seed suppliers will also provide recommendations, and can advise on the appropriate sowing rates for seed mixtures.

This chapter provides practical guidelines for cover-crop management based on the research results

discussed in the previous chapters.
