It is almost impossible to think that 2024 has come and gone and all that we are left with are the memories of another busy year on the Old Boys’ calendar. We kicked the year off on a very social note at Clift Yard with Johan Liebenberg entertaining us with stories and music from the Neil Diamond era. Our Golden Oldies rugby team won two out of their three games not only at the SANGORA Nationals in Mossel Bay in October, but also at the Winelands 10s at Boland Landbou in October. Well done, gentlemen! At our annual Legends Auction in October we honoured our Old Boys active in the winemaking industry. Beyers Truter of Beyerskloof, our keynote speaker, entertained us with stories from the wine industry. Hennie Warnich, the auctioneer, once again did not disappoint with his

du Toit (vice chairman) and Uys van Heerden (treasurer). We co-opted Divan Kleynhans, Kobus Barnard and Marius Herholdt in various positions. I would like to thank each member of the committee for their unwavering commitment and service towards the Old Boys’ Union – I look forward to working with you again in 2025. Bellville Golf Club was the host for our annual Old Boys’ golf day against Paul Roos in April. We managed to clinch a victory with 5,5 – 4,5. Our Old Boys’ cricket team unfortunately lost their Interschools match against Paarl Gim. Also in April, Dr Kobus Uys (m 1979) and Corné Krige (m 1993), in conjunction with the C8 Foundation, took a team of cyclists on a historic mountain bike challenge from Paarl Boys’ High to Oakdale in Riversdale to raise awareness for concussion and related head injuries on schoolboy level. The funds they raised will be used to upgrade the medical facilities at Brug Street. Congratulations to Dr Uys, team and the C8 Foundation on this amazing initiative – we salute you! Gedurende Mei was dit weer die HJS se beurt om gasheer te speel vir die jaarlikse kragmeting teen Grey Kollege. By die Old Boys’-gholfdag vergoed die oudstudente vir die eersterugbyspan-nederlaag deur die gholftrofee op Boschenmeer met 5 – 1 te verower. Ons Tandems gaan ook elke jaar van krag tot krag; Breërivier, Helderberg, Drakenstein en Tygerberg hou deur die loop van die jaar verskeie funksies. Die OSU-bestuur bedank graag almal by die onderskeie Tandems vir die reël van hierdie gesellige aande. In Augustus het mnr Swart en verskeie personeellede funksies by Witzenberg en Swartland bygewoon. Wel gedaan aan al die Tandems – doen so voort! Voor ons ons oë kon uitvee was Augustus op ons met die hoogtepunt van die jaar – Winter Interskole 2024! Die Groot Brag was weer ’n reusesukses. My dank en groot waardering aan ons hoofborg, Sotheby’s International Realty, asook al ons ander borge wat die aand ondersteun het.Ondanks ons eerste span se nederlaag teen die Bloedworse het Boishaai oor die algemeen op alle vlakke uitstekend presteer. Ons het dan ook vanjaar die Old Boys’-pawiljoen met 100 sitplekke vergroot danksy Isipani Konstruksie se ruim bydrae tot hierdie projek. Danksy die volgehoue ondersteuning van die hoofborg, Optimum Finansiële Dienste, was die jaarlikse Oudstudente Interskole Gholfdag suksesvol met meer as 40 vierballe wat deelgeneem het. Ons verloor wel teen die Bloedworse, maar vriendskap en lekker kuier het ongetwyfeld die aand gewen! Die Old Boys het ook in rugby, hokkie en verskeie aksiesporte meegeding, met die volgende uitslae: Rugby Hokkie Aksiekrieket Vyf jaar 6 – 24 Golden Oldies 0 – 22 Golden Oldies verloor met 3 lopies Old Boys 11 – 11 Old Boys 1 – 0 Old Boys wen met 12 lopies

Ons het dan ook in Oktober die klas van 2024 na afloop van hul “uitstapdag” by die Oudstudente-unie verwelkom vir die tradisionele oorhandiging van hul oudstudentedasse. Baie welkom, manne, en baie sterkte met jul toekomsplanne. Baie dankie ook aan die klas van 2004 wat hierdie funksie geborg het. The Old Boys’ Union continues to work closely with the Paarl Boys’ High Foundation Trust in creating projects that can generate long-term funding for the school to ensure that it remains an elite school for future generations. Congratulations and thanks go out to Messrs Derek Swart and Henko Bester, and especially all the staff members of both schools, for your unwavering commitment and service towards our Alma Mater and for all the achievements of the boys, on and off the field. We acknowledge and thank you for the enormous role you play in shaping our boys into the gentlemen they are today! Then, to Mr Swart who announced his retirement earlier this year: thank you for your service over the past 17 years. We wish you all the best for your retirement and hope that you enjoy the time with your family and loved ones. We look forward to seeing you next to the field at future events. Ons innige simpatie aan diegene in die Boishaai-gemeenskap wat vanjaar geliefdes verloor het. Die Oudstudente-unie kan nie voortbestaan sonder die ongelooflike harde werk van ons drie dames in die kantoor, Esmé, Bea en Tina, nie. Namens die OSU-bestuur en al die oudstudente, ons hartlike dank vir hul ongelooflike harde werk gedurende die jaar en vir die passie en positiewe energie waarmee hulle elke projek aanpak. Ons is julle ewig dankbaar! Lastly, I would like to thank each and every Old Boy, parent, teacher, friend and sponsor who supported the Boishaai family throughout the year. It is with your support that we can ensure a “better” Boishaai for future generations and we look forward to strengthening these ties in the years to come!
