Drama and F i lm E v e n i ng

Every year the Drama department hosts an evening celebrating all our talent and skills. This year, on 14 October, we decided to have yet another such evening, even though we knew there was going to be loadshedding. All the Dramatic Arts learners were so excited about this that we immediately had Nico Smit’s parents’ generator on offer and the evening could go on as normal as possible. We learnt from other years not to

make the evening too serious; we could relax and keep it almost cabaret style. Thus, the learners involved the audience in theatre style games, breaking the fourth wall, improvising an unexpected show, even surprising me as their teacher. A few rehearsed items were shown, and two films directed by our own learners were part of the rest of this evening. Mike Wang delighted us with his amazing piano solo and even our

headmaster entertained us with his talent as a performer and writer. Our Girls’ High Grade 12 learner also joined in the fun. We are thankful to have had four Grade 12 learners doing Dramatic Arts as a subject this year and look forward to their great results. Many thanks to our supporters. We will be offering a Boys’ High Drama Evening every year with wine, song, music, acting, film and much more. Wiwe Ras Pretorius

Justin de Villiers and Nico Smith both received CUM LAUDE for their three-item programme performances at the Eisteddfod and Nico received the overall prize for that category.

Tom Siebert winning Best Sound Editing at the Paul Roos FilmIt Awards.

Justin de Villiers and Nico Smit winning Gold at the Eisteddfod.
