“Elke huis het ’n ma nodig” is ’n gesegde wat in huise regoor die wêreld waar is. Hierdie gesegde is nie minder waar in ’n koshuis nie, veral onder seuns.

Tersia Hauptfleisch (of “Tannie Tersia” soos sy met liefde bekend staan o​ nder “haar seuns”) was vir 16 jaar die koshuismatrone“moeder”. Born in Paarl, Tersia attended Paarl Girls’ High School before completing her education degree at Stellenbosch University. Her first venture into teaching was a 9-year stint as Maths teaching at Cloetesville Secondary School. She then went into the private sector, getting involved in the Aqua aerobics startup venture at the old Health and Racquet Clubs, no less!

Boland Landbou was bevoorreg genoeg om haar vir 11 jaar “koshuismoeder” te kon noem. Daarna trek sy dorp toe om die Hoër Jongenskool Paarl-koshuismatrone te word, waar sy vir 16 jaar gebly het. Tannie Tersia was much loved by the boys. Her care and genuine concern for their well being was well known. Many a boy tried their hand to get off school going to “Tannie Tersia”.
