The last three games of the term are always tough due to Western Province trials between weekends and the attempt to ensure that the players’ bodies are fresh every weekend. Having only three home games for the season added more pressure to the schedule and raised expectations. The boys rose to every occasion! Great play and innovative attack coupled with strong defence and set-piece dominance secured victories against Bishops away (29 – 7), Wynberg home (42 – 24), and Boland Landbou away (48 – 22). Boys who made WP teams after the WP U18 at Craven and Academy weeks in the June/July holidays. are: • WP Craven Week U18 Jean-Claude Mars, Shah-Jehaan de Jongh, Jameel de Jongh, Thurlon Williams, Matthew Fick, Ben Heydenrych, Bradley Stanfliet • WP XV Craven Week U18 Scott Nel, Luke Carew, Hugo-Ben Horn, Tian Vorster • WP Academy Week U18 Jo Himmulstützer An SA and SA-A U18 team were selected from these teams to play each other in a curtain-raiser match for the Springbok test and then later to play in a series against England and France U18, a huge opportunity for the following Boys’ Highers who were selected: • SA Schools team Matthew Fick, Thurlon Williams, Shah-Jehaan de Jongh and Jean-Claude Mars. • SA-A Schools team Bradley Stanfliet, Juan Smal, Divan Fuller and Jameel de Jongh. We have so many people to thank for their support and contributions: staff, coaches and their families, parents, Old Boys, Governing Body, sponsors – all of you stood behind us every step of the way. Our success is due to your efforts – thank you! We appreciate you and the support you give us in whichever way!

Ru g by The poles go up and the rugby balls come out – the best time of the year at Paarl Boys’ High for all the rugby men, especially after the long period of no play with Covid restrictions. With little time to prepare, the whole school kicked into high gear and started with trials in the first week, followed by holiday rugby festivals all over the country. The first and second team played in the Noord-Suid rugby festival in Pretoria against Menlopark and Garsfontein. The Seccies won both their games, and the first team won against Menlo and drew the final game against Garsfontein. Due to poor performance and poor decision-making we lost 22 – 19 against Rondebosch despite opportunities to win. After another a short, but intense week of preparation, we were back on the bus to Kimberley for the Wildeklawer Super Schools Tournament togethet with the U14A, U15A and U16A teams. After our disappointing performance at home, we needed to bounce back. The boys responded with great victories against Maritzburg College (38 – 3) and Monnas (27 – 3). We thank our Old Boys that supported us with this trip and made our stay-over in Colesberg possible. Grey Kollege, ’n wegwedstryd, was ons volgende uitdaging.
