RUGBY

Well, we all know what 2020 produced and the impact it had on school life, the winter sports and many special occasions we missed out on.

Our rugby season and planning started in 2019 and we got off to a great start, building the Brotherhood and working very hard on our conditioning. We had lots of early competition to select a well-balanced senior squad. Our camp in December 2019 was a big success and we spent a lot of time building our rugby culture and improv- ing our standards while also having fun. We want to create an environment where the boys could express themselves and perform. The boys always put in a big shift during the December holidays – a vital period for any aspiring senior squad player – followed by a jam-packed summer sporting season. After Interschools cricket we get straight into the rugby season. The seniors’ first outing was the WP Day. We decided to give as many matrics as possible an opportunity to represent the first XI on this special evening. Our 15 – 5 victory over Rondebosch in front of vocal and energetic supporters made it even more special. For the huge battle against Monnas we selected our stron- gest team. The event at Porterville’s Bulfees was given a O

boost with Stadio as sponsor and SSL streaming the match- es live. It was a massive effort and the team did well to get the win. After fantastic work by Romano Fourie, Abraham Reyneke, Sebastian Lombard and Herman Visser the ball eventually landed in the hands of Etienne van Rooyen who scored the winning try. PBHS won the match 17 – 10. We cannot wait to get started in 2021. Thank you too to Paarl Boys High staff, who provide us with such a great foundation, and to the coaches, parents and Old Boys who back us all the way. We want to make you all proud next year with our performances. We want every pupil who plays rugby to have fun and make friends and memories for life. What a school to be part of! I am so honoured and humbled to be here.
