When Paarl Boys’ High hockey kicked off their year with pre-season training, we were all extremely enthusiastic for what the year 2020 had in store for us.

From our junior players to our senior groups we had prepared very well to be able to tackle some of the bigger teams that would come across our path. However, with the devastation of Co- vid-19, the wind was taken out of our sails. The first hockey team was only able to play one fixture which was a friendly game against our Old Boys whom they managed to beat 6 – 2 in a very entertaining yet competitive match. There was a little bit of light in the tunnel for two of our under 14 sides: one team was able to take part in the DF Malan Tournament and the other team in the Paarl Boys’ Hockey Tournament, hosting schools like Rondebosch and F

Paul Roos, which was organised and run by Cindy Mc Far- lane. We are very excited about this tournament and the potential it holds. Paarl Boys’ High could also boast a few players being se- lected for the inaugural Cape Town Premier League Hockey Tournament for being regarded as the best in their age group throughout the Boland and the Western Province regions. We are very proud to announce that Scott Paterson was selected as a marquee player for this tournament because of his inclusion into the 2019 SA Schools U17 team. To the matrics who were unfortunate not to have played this year we wish them all the best for the future. We hope that Paarl Boys’ Hockey has installed in them a love of the sport so that they will continue to play for many years to come.
