KRIEKET

Cricket

The U19B team left for Graaff-Reinet as early as 3 January. They played four matches and came back unbeaten. One of those matches was a closely fought day/night game against Paarl Gim which we won by 7 runs. Meanwhile, the U19A and U15A teams started on home ground with their festival matches. The U15A team played four matches and won three, in- cluding a 100-run victory over a strong Waterkloof side. The U19A team played five matches during the annual Cape Cricket Festival which we host with Wynberg and SACS. We won three, lost one and drew one. We started with our first league matches on 14 January this year. Up to date we have played 114 matches. That is a lot of cricket in a short space of time. It works out at 114 matches in 40 days. That on average is 2,9 games per day! Out of the 120 matches we have played we won 77 matches, drew 9 matches and lost 35. We played 13 matches against Paarl Gimnasium this year and we won 10 matches. There were some brilliant individual performances. Here are a couple of standout performances: THE YEAR STARTED WITH A BANG!

With the bat: U19A: Boeta Chamberlain (103 against Pretoria Boys’ High); Shaun Fouché (105* against Brackenfell). U15A: Michael Papen- fus (152 against Wynberg and 101 against Bishops), Kenan le Roux (125 against Grey PE) and Johan Cronjé (102* against Rondebosch). U19B: Marthus Coetzee (111 against Rondebosch). With the ball: Jami Ebersöhn (U14D: 5/12 against Boland Landbou). Kyle Coetzee (U15B: 5/9 against New Orleans U15A). Jett Marsberg (U15A: 6/21 against Hermanus High School) and in the same match Wessel Roos (hattrick). Michael Papenfus (U15A: 5/11 against Menlo Park). Kennett Sinclair (U19C: 5/39 against New Orleans U19B) and Juan Burger (U19C: 5/24 against Wynberg); U19B: Kieran Dreyden (5/19 against Bridge House U19A) and Dehan Hay (5/30 against Bishops). U19A: Morné de Kock (5/8 against Northcliff); Achille Cloete (5/38 against Rondebosch and 5/36 against Wynberg). These are all noteworthy performances. There were also a lot of 50s and 4-fers taken during the season.

Allowme to take this opportunity to thank all our coaches for their effort with the players and for the long hours in the sun. Thank you to all the players for your dedication and the manner in which you represented Paarl Boys’ High throughout the year.
