Brett Tesselaar started teaching at Paarl Boys’ High School in 2005. He had previously been teaching at De Kuilen HS, but on his return to Boishaai, he was returning to his roots as he was an Old Boy, Class of 1991. Brett Tesselaar

Mr Tesselaar had played hockey as a pupil at Paarl Boys’ High, playing in the second team team and playing golf for the school. After school he spent some time in America, playing golf. The first classroom he called home was room 34, where he taught English. He also coached different sports: cricket, rugby, golf and hockey. He coached the U14A team of which the present Head of Hockey, Mr Rowan Mclachlan, was a member. Mr Tesselaar took over the role of Head of Hockey at the school and poured his passion into developing the sport at the school. In 2007 Mr Tesselaar married Anne-Marie and moved into the Monte Bello hostel where he was well loved by his “children”, being described as a caring, but disciplined hostel father. A headmaster that Mr Tesselaar will always remember was Mr Tom Engela, who encapsulated

the “Boishaai Way” and, as Mr Tesselaar says, “You knew when he had entered a room. You gave him your respect.” One funny story that he recalls is when his class room was in the old woodwork room, which is now the tuckshop, the toilet pipes ran through the inside of his classroom, and he says you could always tell when the hostel had had baked beans for breakfast! Now on the next part of his journey Mr Brett Tesselaar has moved to Worcester as the Head of English at Worcester Gimnasium. A step up, a step out and a new world to be discovered and conquered. We wish him every success in this, The New Chapter.
