Paarl Boys’ High chess started the year on a high. As I looked over the sheer number of boys ready to take on the game of chess and driven to prove themselves in the trials, I knew the year 2021 would be special. In the midst of all the lockdowns we were still able to host two very successful tournaments against Paul Roos and Grey College. Although Top Schools never got off the ground, we did not let this get us down and our boys were a head above the rest at the Cape Winelands Chess trials. We ended the chess session with one of the most successful Interhouse Championships in decades with record numbers of participants. Owing to the vast number of boys that wanted to participate, we had to create two leagues for the championship. vs Paul Roos Op 21 April was HJS gasheer vir Paul Roos vir ’n massaskaaktoernooi. o. 15A HJS 11 – 3 PRG o. 18B HJS 6 – 8 PRG o. 18A HJS ½ – 11½ PRG
