Drought.
PHOTO 415. Despite regular overhead irrigation, these grapevines at the end of the rows in a newly planted Crouchen block were deprived of sufficient water deposits by strong prevailing winds, thereby subjecting the vines to serious drought associated damage. Note the normal appearance of the grapevines and prolific weeds in the background; there are no signs of drought induced manifestations of abnormality.
PHOTO 416. Despite supplementary irrigation, severe drought induced abnormalities (including watery ripening) are encountered in these Bukettraube grapevines. In this case the soil profile is characterised by the presence of white clay on coarse sand.
