Wind damage.
PHOTO 397. As with shoots (Photo 394), wind may inflict serious damage on vascular tissue of peduncles (as a result of chafing/rubbing against foliage wires). In this instance, witness the damage to applicable parts of a young bunch (before flowering).
PHOTO 398. During the flowering period wind may also contribute to weak(er) set of berries.
