PHOTO 368. A further example of the situation in Photo 367, as indicative of the fact that leaves can be eaten by spring beetles to the extent that only the principal veins remain intact. Not to be confused with damage caused by snout beetles or snails.
PHOTO 369. Characteristic of wilting beetles is the insertion of a stylet just below or on the curve of an actively growing shoot tip – so as to make provision for the extraction of cell sap from the vascular bundles.
